Grassroots beginnings
In the summer of 2004, service providers united to address unmet needs of some of Calgary’s vulnerable youth. They identified the necessity for a tailored event to connect youth with vital support in preparation for winter. Renamed as Gear Up in 2005, it now annually benefits high-risk youth.
Our Purpose
The Gear Up event offers vulnerable youth winter supplies, health services, and self-care in a relaxed atmosphere. It's not your usual resource fair; instead, it's a chance for youth to step "off the streets" and into a supportive environment. By fostering healthy connections, we empower youth to make positive life changes. Each year, individuals, businesses, and agencies contribute time, donations, and support, creating a caring and uplifting afternoon.
